Here's my review for NFS: Carbon. Now there have been many many versions of Need For Speed, but the most popular are probably Most Wanted, Underground, and this one. They release a new version at least once every year, or every other year, so it's always being improved graphically, as well as glitches, and all the good stuff. The only thing that usually makes a game good is the story, the UI, and other stuff like that.
Review for "Need For Speed: Carbon".
What It Is.
A Racing Game! You basically go around racing everyone, until you win that part of town, then that part of the city, then the whole city. There's also many cars that you can choose from, but depending on the classes that you choose from, some cars won't be unveiled until later. There's also the Challenge Series, which can actually get quite challenging. I haven't beaten all of it, simple because I didn't care about the rewards, but some of them are fun.
How It Works.
Well, first your the driver from the previous game before that, which I believe was Most Wanted, I'm not very sure. So you come back, but some cop guy catches you because your on bounty, and then another guy comes and tells you that he owns you, and you race for him. So you race for him, and eventually conquer most of the city. After that, he gets pissed off, and you race him. There's also 3 types of cars. Exotic, Tuner, and my personal favorite, Muscle. There's something like 76 cars I think.
My Experience.
Well, I've played this game many times and I've never really beaten it until like 2 months ago. I kept having problems with it on Windows, because it would cause me trouble, so I got a Mac port, and it worked fine, except the auto-sculpting, which really isn't that important. I did like it, but it gets a little boring, just like the rest of the racing games on this world except a couple. The only thing that really keeps you going is getting new cars and tuning to have the ultimate power!
The Good.
Hmm, well definitely the graphics are good, for the time, and AI gets on your nerves a little, so I guess thats good, because it shows its a little advanced. The amount of cars that you can choose from is plenty, although it's not like other realistic racing games where you have like 200 cars to choose from. The single player mode, isn't that short, but it isn't that long either, which makes it just right. You could beat the whole game in about 2-3 days, 2-4 hours a day.
The Bad.
The cut scenes are really good and amazing, with the whole innovative live-action sequences that the NFS series have been known for, but there aren't enough of them. That goes probably for all NFS games. The physics engine is pretty bad though. What happened to the engine from Most Wanted? It was probably the most realistic of all of them. In Carbon, there was no rain, no gravity, and it was always dark.
My Future Expectations.
I'm not going to play NFS: Pro Street, because it's completely different from the rest. That, and it got alot of bad reviews, and alot of people hated it, including some of my friends. The newly unveiled NFS: Undercover looks good though, and I'm kind of curious.
My Rating For This Game.
This is an okay game, but it doesn't take much to make an okay racing game. I don't really have much of an opinion, but it was fun to play for about a week. I give this game a 6.5 out of 10.
